Sing with KidVox!
KidVox is about confidence, musicality, and fun! We spend 8-10 weeks exploring our voices, learning music, ditching stage fright, making friends, and building empathy through the power of music and singing. Your student will emerge as a stronger singer and as a more confident, empathetic kid.
As an after school activity in Portland Public Schools, KidVox provides elementary students an opportunity to discover their authentic voices, develop musicianship, and learn performance skills through fun group and solo activities.
To close out the term, we’ll present an optional musical performance for parents. This is an informal showcase for parents to witness the joy and accomplishment we’ve been cultivating throughout the term! Participation is optional for each student, but definitely encouraged.
FAQs:
Does my student need to have experience or be a “good” singer?
Not at all! KidVox is appropriate for all levels, including students who haven’t sung a note outside their school music class and those students who consider singing to be their “thing.” We’ll introduce music reading skills and healthy vocal technique. Each student will have the opportunity to work on music that suits their level of experience, with the opportunity to grow!
What if my child isn’t sure they want to sing in front of other people?
That’s ok! While we’ll definitely offer an opportunity to build confidence in solo singing, students will be nudged toward progress at a rate that is right for them. The parent performance is optional and will include a group song—so even those with a bit of stage fright can participate.
My child already takes private voice lessons—is KidVox right for them?
We think so! While KidVox offers a safe space for beginners, the structure of the class means that everyone learns from everyone else. Does your child already have Broadway dreams? Advanced students can work on more difficult pieces while they learn skills in encouraging others—and everyone has something they can improve! One of the main benefits of KidVox is that it provides an opportunity to sing for students who love singing so much they can’t get enough.

KidVox is an afterschool program and is situated in various Portland Public Schools. We are still updating our locations for the 2023-24 school year. Please reach out if you’d like KidVox to happen at your child’s school!
